Matthew (Mattie) Stepanek was a young man who lived with a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Mitochondrial Myopathy. He was the fourth child in his family to be diagnosed with this disease. After his diagnosis, his mother began showing signs of Mitochondrial Myopathy as well.
Mattie spread peace and love through the many poems in his multiple books. He published seven bestselling books before his death at the age of 13 in 2003. His legacy lives on as his mom continues his mission to spread hope and peace through his foundation.
