Last night was The Oscars, a night were movies from the previous year are recognized and win awards for their performance and execution. I felt that the Academy did a good job of representing many minorities including Black people, Asian Americans and the disabled. They even made the stage wheelchair accessible and sat Judy Heuman and James Lebrecht, from the documentary, Crip Camp, front and center. Yet, I was disappointed that Crip Camp did not win the award for best documentary feature. I even went on the Oscars Instagram to find a picture of Judy Heuman. I saw photos of Octopi and dogs on the red carpet but no photographs of Judy or the makers of Crip Camp. Although the academy showed progress last night and did make an effort, I feel that more could’ve been done.

Did you watch the 2021 Oscars? What were your thoughts and opinions of the event?
