Embarrassed or Shamed by Someone
Has someone you know or don’t know ever made you feel embarrassed or ashamed about your disability? How about before your diagnoses, was there ever a situation where someone called you out about your body or the way you did something? Who was this person to you and how did you handle the situation?
I distinctly remember a field trip in 6th grade. My classmates, teacher and myself were all having lunch at a long table. Before my diagnoses I would use my hand to keep my mouth closed when eating. In front of everyone she told me to take my hand away from my mouth and sit properly. I was pretty embarrassed, no one ever said anything to me about the way I ate. I was young and didn’t do anything about it, if it was today, I think I would have handled it much differently.
