Power wheelchairs and rain
How do you manage to protect your wheelchair in the rain? Do you try your best to avoid big puddles of water? Have you ever covered your wheelchair in a plastic bag to keep the rain from making contact with any of the electrical wires on your power wheelchair? Do you use oversized umbrellas and have a friend, family member or caregiver hold it over you in an attempt to keep yourself and your wheelchair dry?

I live in Oregon, so if I stayed inside when it rains I would never get out! I bought a lined poncho online that is longer in front especially for a wheelchair user and I carry some heavy plastic bags that I slip over the controls on each arm rest and secure with rubber bands. With my main chairs, I have never had a water problem. Yes, I avoid puddles because I never know how deep they are. My travel scooter went through on of those foot wash things at a pool in France and it gave me major grief for most of the rest of my trip. I finally got it working again, but it’s a lot lower than my full size power chair so now I’m much more careful with it.

How about making and bind a simple umbrella to it? Maybe it’s not so easy, but it will solve the problem.
