This is a very political and hard question. If by socialized medicine you mean the one system, Medicare for all, I believe even if Bernie wins that won’t happen easily. What we need to do first is make sure those who currently have no coverage get coverage. Then figure out how we pat for that. We need to look at everything. Current profit margins by health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies included. We have enough money in this country to pay for this. Coverage for all should be the first step.

Leah, let me first say I am not running for office ha ha. It’s a bigger question than that because the reality from my opinion is that anybody in this country who is undocumented is playing a role. So many millions are in jobs that would be hard to fill and ultimately we need all of these individuals. So we need a way to citizenship and yes health care. Otherwise I think we all suffer and pay for it.

This is a strange feeling, answering your question. I grew up in a country with ‘socialised medicine’. It saved my life more than once. I never paid a penny other than though taxes. We call it our ‘National health service’. It has flaws nowadays – caused by a government which has starved it of funds because it wants to sell it off to private medicine and Pharma  – but I hope we will kick them out in a month. Breaking Bad’ wouldn’t have the motivational driver of needing money for cancer treatment in our country. They’d have to give Cranston another reason to make meth, because the whole country would shoulder the responsibility for his cancer treatment. My daughter with fshmd has had the best treatment in one of the world’s leading teaching hospitals  for medicine: physio, pain relief, specialist vocal rehab, advice with accommodation and diet. It has cost her nothing. We all pay for medical care through our taxes. I pay just like the next person though I haven’t needed to see a doctor in years.  Family doctors (GP)in our country  belong to a highly trained specialty  and can deal with a lot of what would be hospital medicine elsewhere. So even under the current stress, socialised medicine is superior because the patient is at the centre of treatment. Plus it is more efficient and cheaper than the bureaucracy of private insurance.  I cannot understand why a nation would refuse care ‘from the cradle to the grave’ for all its members. if you haven’t got this but have the chance to develop it, grab it! i suggest, if there is opposition, ask what they stand to lose.
