Short Bio |
Was diagnosed in 1997 (40 yrs old) with a “quadriceps myopathy”. Was confirmed as LGMD 2L in 2017 via MDA DNA test. My disease has been a slow progression. I lost my ability to walk about 3 yrs ago and get around using electric mobility scooters. I have stair lifts at home. Will be looking for a single floor home next spring. I have multiple tendon/ligament tears due to falls over the years. (Both shoulders, right wrist, left ACL, etc. I can’t re-hab so surgery is apparently not an option. I’m in a lot of pain – shoulders and arms – since I stress them getting up and down from the scooters. Doctors are hesitant about prescribing pain meds due to the “opiod crisis”. I still work full time…2 1/2 yrs away from retirement. Loading and unloading my scooter is a little bit harder every day. Quality of life has been diminished for sure.
