Have you had to widen doorways in your home to fit your wheelchair or walker? Have you installed any sliding doors to save space and because they’re easier to open?

My parents had adaptive hinges installed in some of our doorways. Expandable offset hinges were created with disabled people in mind. They make the door swing clear if the opening, allowing the doorway to be 2 extra inches wider.

We also have ADA door knobs, also known as door levers, which are easier to grab because they’re long and thin, not round. A spherical knob requires the use of your whole hand while door levers can be opened by pushing down with the side of your hand.
