  Barriers faced when running for political office

  Have you thought about running for a political position where you live? What has kept you from running for office? Was it physical barriers? Societal barriers? Economic barriers? Have you heard of US Senator Tammy Duckworth?

  The disability community is severely underrepresented in public office, but due to an absence of data, there aren’t many reliable figures on the number of people with disabilities serving in office at the Federal, state, or local level at any point in time. Since I started using my power chair 3 years ago I have made accessibility a pursuit of mine, this is especially important when it comes to representation in politics.
