• Answering the question “How are you?”

    How are you? That question has always been a tough one for me to answer. My usual answer is “I’m good” or “hanging in there.” I mean, I could give them the long and slightly morbid answer and say “I’m good compared to my last hospital stay which was horrible because I was in the worst relapse of my life” or “I’ve gotten good sleep the last couple nights and haven’t had a panic attack in the last three days so…”

    How do you answer this question? Has someone close to ever asked sympathetically how you’re really feeling? Do you keep your answers short because you don’t want to go into your life story? How do you think others interpret your answer?
