Jiffy Lube raised more than $600,000 during its annual Muscle Up! drive, which continued its ongoing support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Summer Camp programMDA Medical Care Centers, research efforts, and patient help groups.

Since its launch in 2012, the campaign has raised $6 million for the MDA.

“MDA is proud to have a strong partner like Jiffy Lube as we continue to find urgently needed treatments and cures for these life-threatening diseases that severely limit strength and mobility,” Lynn O’Connor Vos, MDA president and chief executive officer, said in a press release.“We are in unprecedented times with the speed of drug development and services our families desperately need.”

This year’s fundraiser, which benefits patients of all ages with muscular dystrophy and related diseases, was held throughout August. Jiffy Lube patrons at participating service centers nationwide were invited to donate $3 to the MDA. In exchange, each donor got a Muscle Up! book containing savings coupons for Jiffy Lube and other retailers.

“We appreciate the support of our Jiffy Lube franchisees, their employees and our customers who continue to express their enthusiasm and passion for MDA,” said Denny Reiner, director of marketing for Jiffy Lube International. “Jiffy Lube is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work.”

The campaign’s name compares the human body structure to that of a vehicle, in that both need care and maintenance to perform optimally.

MDA’s camp program gives thousands of children the opportunity to attend camps throughout the United States. At no cost to patients’ families, the week includes everything from swimming and zip-lining to horseback riding and dancing. Along the way, the youngsters make friends and gain valuable life skills.

The experience is also aimed at helping participants gain independence and greater confidence as they spend time away from home and their primary caregivers. Available to children who have a type of neuromuscular disease covered by MDA’s program, each camp is staffed with health professionals and trained camp volunteers.

Serving about 20 million customers annually, Jiffy Lube has more than 2,000 franchised locations in North America. The Houston, Texas-based company started the fast oil change industry in 1979.

Founded in 1950 by a group of families, the MDA is committed to saving and improving the lives of those living with muscular dystrophy and related life-threatening diseases. It funds scientific research and provides educational programs and other services. Its network of more than 150 care centers at healthcare institutions nationwide offers access to multidisciplinary care, clinical trials, and the neuromuscular community.
