Celebrating Disability Pride and the Americans with Disabilities Act
July is Disability Pride Month as well as the celebration for the signing into law of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
If you didn’t know, in the United States the ADA prohibits discrimination and discriminatory acts against people with disabilities. As well as helping people with disabilities in areas such as work and school it also includes making public locations and transportation accessible to those with mobility aids.
This law took years of advocating from the disability community to finally be addressed and put into place and still to this day needs improving.
Have you reached a point in your life where you feel proud to be a part of the disability community? Is there a law in your country that protects people with disabilities? If you live in the U.S. what do you think the ADA is lacking?
