Debating the Political Correctness of the Term “Special Needs”
There has been a lot of debate about whether the term “special needs” is an accurate and politically correct description of someone or people with mental and physical disabilities. Some people argue that the term stigmatizes disability as a bad thing and therefore, the word “disabled” needs to be encouraged.
What is your opinion of the use of the term “special needs” and why or why not do you use it to describe yourself or others who are disabled.
