LCBO Stores Raise Funds For Muscular Dystrophy Canada for the Month of April 2015
by |
Starting April 1, the public can begin showing their support for Muscular Dystrophy Canada by giving a donation at any of the Canada-based LCBO stores; there are more than 650 throughout Ontario alone. Until April 25, 2015, donation boxes will be displayed at checkout counters.
The funds raised from the LCBO Provincial Donation Box Program will serve to help families supported by Muscular Dystrophy Canada so they can purchase essential medical equipment for their condition. Aside from discovering a cure, the top priority for those suffering from any neuromuscular disorder is having access to specialized equipment. These items are frequently very expensive and it is common for families not to have any health insurance to cover such costs. Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s main goal is to provide individuals with neuromuscular disorders the prescribed equipment needed for their daily living. The Association wants to help these individuals to maintain independence and increase their participation and access in the community.
“We appreciate the support we receive from LCBO, its employees and especially its customers. LCBO’s province-wide store network provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness and funds to carry out the important work we do,” said the Muscular Dystrophy Canada National Director, Kevin Harrison.

“LCBO is pleased to partner with Muscular Dystrophy Canada and support a variety of worthy causes through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program,” said the LCBO CEO and President, Bob Peter. “The generosity of LCBO customers and staff enable these charitable organizations to make a significant impact in helping individuals and communities across Ontario.”
In 2015, Muscular Dystrophy Canada and 27 more provincial and various local charities will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program. In 2013, LCBO raised over $8.2 million for charities through special initiatives and programs, of which $7.7 million was raised through in-store fundraising. Furthermore, LCBO’s annual profit transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.74 billion in fiscal 2013-14, excluding taxes, serves to support many important government services, programs and priorities, such as education and health care.
