A group of local CITGO marketers in Wisconsin are celebrating a year of successfully supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The story is yet one more example of the pride and commitment among those who advocate and fundraise for treating and eventually curing the disease.
In 2014, the eight marketers, Saunders Oil Company, Condon Oil Company, Quality State Oil, Garrow Oil, Van Zeeland Oil, Frawley Oil, US Venture and Lakeside Oil Company raised more than $444,000 thanks to several events (including the recent MDA Muscle Team event) and in-store promotions across Wisconsin.
Nathan Denk from Lakeside Oil Company, said: “We are thrilled to support the MDA through campaigns and special fundraising events each year. MDA is such an important organization and we are honored to help in the fight against these diseases.”
Saunders Oil Company, Quality State Oil and Condon Oil Company held annual golf outings this year and featured prize raffles and both silent and live auctions. Lakeside Oil, US Venture, Frawley Oil and Condon Oil hosted MDA Muscle Team events and drew national, state, and local athletes together to show their support for the cause. Garrow Oil held the Toast to Life Gala in Appleton, Wisconsin, which brought together 170 attendees for live auctions, beverages, and tastings. The money raised in these events will serve to support programs for Wisconsin’s families that live with neuromuscular diseases, research in the MDA field, physical therapy, care programs, support groups, and the MDA summer camp for local children with the disease.
Alan Flagg, CITGO’s vice president, commented: “We have worked with the MDA for a long time and are proud to support an organization that is dedicated to finding a cure for people afflicted with muscle diseases. The success of fundraising events like these held in Wisconsin is due to Marketers, employees, customers and community members who dedicate their time and money to support this worthwhile cause.”
MDA is a volunteer health organization committed to defeating muscular dystrophy. MDA supports professional and public health education programs and supports research and comprehensive services for the MD community. In addition, Houston-based CITGO is the largest MDA corporate sponsor and has raised more than $170 million in the past 28 years.
