Toronto will come together on Saturday, May 2nd, to make muscles move against muscular dystrophy. Thousands of people suffering with any kind of neuromuscular disorder in Canada will be supported by the community at the annual Toronto Walk for Muscular Dystrophy.

Mayyan Ziv, who is the 2015 Toronto Walk Ambassador, strongly believes in the capacity and power of this event. He said in a press release: “I think the Walk is a great way for people to mingle, and meet others while supporting such an important cause. There is something to be said about strength in numbers, and I think together we can raise funds for really groundbreaking research and innovation. ”

Muscular dystrophy is one in a series of progressive muscle disorders in which the muscles that control the movement of the body become weak. These effects can have severe consequences such as being unable to speak, walk and breathe. For some patients, the disorder is fatal.

The Walk for Muscular Dystrophy is as described by Stacey Lintern, the Executive Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Canada Ontario as “an opportunity for the community to come together and support those affected by neuromuscular disorders at the local level.” This is a family-friendly event that will include prizes, refreshments and many activities for children.

The Muscular Dystrophy Canada has almost no funding from the government and it relies on community activities and events and donors’ generosity. The proceeds obtained from the event will serve to support several programs such as assistive living devices, funding equipment, support services and assure fund to research hoping that one day a cure will be found.

The event will take place at the Cherry Beach Park in Toronto and the registration starts at 10:00 am; the walk, wheel and roll will begin around 11:00 am. For more information visit www.walkformusculardystrophy.ca.
