Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen’s franchisee Sailormen has launched the 15th Annual “Appetite for a Cure” campaign to enhance the lives of those living with muscular dystrophy (MD) and related disorders.

Money raised will support efforts by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to combat MD and other diseases of the muscular and nervous system by funding research, providing medical and community services, and educating health professionals and the public.

Combined with proceeds from the 14th Annual MDA Sailormen/Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic, last year’s “Appetite for a Cure” drive netted more than $1 million for neuromuscular research and patient support. Since 2002, Sailormen has raised more than $7 million for the MDA.

With more than 100 participating locations in Florida and Georgia, the program involves selling customers coupons valued at more than $50 for just $1. The coupons can be used for orders during Sailormen/Popeyes visits until March 17.

“Sailormen is honored to again partner with MDA to give strength and independence to kids and adults living with life-threatening neuromuscular diseases,” Kara Nordstrom, Sailormen CEO, said in a press release.

“With the help of our strong communities, we are supporting scientific and clinical research to transform the lives of individuals living with neuromuscular diseases,” Nordstrom said.

Funds raised go toward scientific research and help provide MDA families with life-improving programs such as cutting-edge support groups and multidisciplinary care centers at premier medical institutions.

They also help support MDA’s venerable Summer Camp, known by some in the community as “the best week of the year.” Through a variety of activities including arts and crafts, sports, games, and traditional camp doings, the experience is said to give children a chance to discover new interests while making friends and gaining self-confidence and independence.

“Popeyes customers’ and employees’ efforts to raise funds during the ‘Appetite for a Cure’ campaign allow MDA to provide the kids and adults we serve with the critical resources and support they need to grow stronger and live longer,” said Joanne Boigris, MDA executive director.

“Their dedication empowers these individuals by providing funds for groundbreaking research, MDA Care Centers, life-changing summer camps, and support programs,” Boigris said.

Located at more than 150 of the top healthcare institutions nationwide, MDA Care Centers comprise the organization’s Care Center Network, which offers patients expert multidisciplinary care, clinical trials, and an overall connection with MDA and the neuromuscular community.

With 105 locations, and specializing in chicken and biscuits, Sailormen is reportedly one of the largest domestic franchisees of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants. Popeyes was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It has more than 2,700 restaurants globally.
