Pets at home
If you have a pet at home, have you modified anything to make it easier for you to care for it? I have a cat and to clean her litter box I went to a beach store and picked up a long handle sand sifter, something used to find seashells at the beach. I keep her food in an accessible place with another long handle scooper to put the dry food in the bowl and to put down some wet food I use a dustpan and lower the bowl to the floor. I also keep her water bowl close to the sink so I don’t spill any trying to transfer it.
How have you modified your life to help you have an animal companion in the home with you?

We do have a pet at home. We got a dog about six months ago. We have been very lucky because he is so good and I would say the only real modification for me is that when I take him out I try to stay on a fairly safe path. Winter becomes a challenge in Chicago and I did have one fall where I hurt myself enough that I had to go to the ER, but slowly we are learning together and he has learned to listen when I tell him “this way” when he is going to go around a pole the wrong way. At home I just have to be careful of his toys so I don’t step on one and fall.

My dog has learned that he cannot jump on me, when I fall all play stops. He still gets excited and jumps on some people but he is pretty careful with me. My cat has also become more cautious around me, I have fallen and grazed her before but she is very quick, she sits on the floor with me sometimes if I need to wait for someone to help me up.
