Accused of Being Inebriated Because You Have MD
Recently, my friend with muscular dystrophy had the police call on her because she fell, and her neighbor believed her to be drunk or on drugs. She has a wheelchair lift on the outside of her vehicle and fell when she went to transfer. Instead of being helpful or concerned, the neighbor called the police.
Have you ever been accused of being inebriated due to the way you walk or fall on the ground? Do you wear a medical bracelet stating your condition? Have the police called you because someone thought you were on drugs or drunk? How did you feel? Was it embarrassing?
