Blood Clots or Stroke in MD Patients
Studies have concluded that muscular dystrophy itself is a risk factor for thrombosis (blood clots block your blood vessels). There have been reports that coagulation and fibrinolysis abnormality is strongly present in younger patients with DMD, BMD, and Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy (FCMD). Source
Some patients with MD are at higher risk of stroke. So if your doctor has indicated that you need to be more aware of the risks, it is essential to try and follow them. Such as lowering blood pressure, stopping smoking cigarettes, reducing alcohol, trying your best to move your body daily, and making other health-conscious decisions that can improve how you feel!
Do you worry that muscular dystrophy might increase your chances of clots and stroke? How have you tried to prevent or reduce the chances of stroke or clots?
