Can stress make muscular dystrophy worse?
Data has shown that stress induces muscle degeneration and accelerates age-dependent muscular dystrophy. Dystrophic muscles are already compromised, and as a consequence, they are less adaptive and more sensitive to energetic stress and changes in the ambient temperature. With my journey with FSHD, I have noticed that stress and working have caused me to degenerate and get sick. I had a few hospitalizations for specific ailments, and I saw a decline in my muscle strength. In addition, after major surgery in 2021, my legs had gotten weaker from the stress of the surgery.
Do you believe that stress has played a role in your muscle atrophy? How do you deal with stress? What other cause do you think affects your muscles?
