Facial Expressions
Does your muscular dystrophy affect your facial expressions? Do you think that has an impact on your social life or relationships? Are you able to express yourself even if you can’t use the muscles in your face the way you want to?
My FSHD affects my face. When I smile, you can’t see my top teeth, and I can’t close my eyes tightly. It is difficult for me to “mouth” words to people or wink. Sometimes I wish I had stronger facial muscles, especially when I was younger, and I would get bullied about the way I laughed. I used to cover my mouth because I was embarrassed, but now that I am older, I embrace this “flaw,” dare I say I love it about myself!
