Mitochondrial Awareness Week
September 13th-19th is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week. Although Mitochondrial Diseases are included under the umbrella of muscular dystrophies, they are different because the root issue is mitochondrial dysfunction and not directly muscle atrophy. Also, not all Mitochondrial Diseases are hereditary. Some can be caused by medication, injury, or the environment.
Some of the ways people are taking action to spread awareness are:
•Select cities are turning their lights, fountains, and bridges green
•Painting rocks and hiding them around local areas and sharing them to Mito Rocks 19 Facebook Page
