Non-physical stress relieving activities
When I was more able-bodied I relied heavily on exercise as a way to relieve stress, even at a young age. But now a days with less mobility I use alternative stress relievers when dealing with anxiety, especially those situations that are intensified by having MD. Breath work hasĀ been a really great way to reduce anxiety quickly and can be done in any situation. Controlling breathing can offer an immediate lessening of anxiety and a sense of empowerment. The 4-7-8 relaxing breath is used to address generalized anxiety disorder and is the technique I use to relax and sometimes if I do it at night I will fall asleep! My therapist also recommended I journal my anxious thoughts and stay away from social media. When I do exercise I make sure it is in the pool so I am not sore the next day. I don’t want to associate pain with something to reduce anxiety.
How do you calm down quickly? What recommendations do you have for people dealing with anxiety? What situations have you noticed either cause your anxiety or intensify it? Do you have any stress relievers?
