Did you know that nail polish can disrupt the reading on a Pulse Oximeter?

Pulse oximeters are those things nurses put on your finger when evaluating your vitals. Supposedly, the color of the polish makes it difficult for the pulse oximeter’s laser to pick up on your readings.  As far as I know this is a relatively new discovery.  Quite a few nurses of mine have been concerned that because of my nail polish they wouldn’t get an accurate reading from the pulse oximeter.
