It is common for people with MD to experience complications during surgery due to anesthesia. It is crucial that you inform your surgeon about your type of Muscular Dystrophy so he/she can prepare the right medications and protocols to prevent any issues. Make sure that your surgery is performed at a medical center so that in the case of any emergency you will be in good hands. Surgery Centers are separate from hospitals which is more risky.

Certain anesthetics can have negative side effects for those with MD. Malignant Hyperthermia, a condition that causes your body to overheat during surgery, are also a common condition for MD patients.

Have you ever experienced side effects from anesthesia? Where the side effects moderate or life threatening? Have you been diagnosed with Malignant Hyperthermia?
