Jiffy Lube and MDA partnership

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Jiffy Lube service centers have been partners in the annual Muscle Up! campaign since 2012, joining forces to help people with muscular dystrophy (MD) live longer and grow stronger. On its 5th anniversary, the organizations are announcing that more than $5 million has been raised through the campaign. The announcement was made on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29.

“Thanks to continuous support from partners like Jiffy Lube, we are accelerating the progress to find urgently-needed treatments and cures for these life-threatening diseases that severely limit strength and mobility,” Steven M. Derks, president and chief executive officer at MDA, said in a press release.

The Muscle Up! campaign compares our bodies’ muscular systems and a vehicle’s engine structure: Both need care and maintenance to optimize their performance and ensure safety and comfort.

To help the MDA provide that assistance to people with MD, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and related muscle-debilitating diseases, every August Jiffy Lube franchise invites its customers to make a $3 or more contribution to help fund research and support initiatives.

One of the main initiatives funded by the campaign is a free, week-long summer camp for children, which allows them to discover new hobbies and interests, boosts self-confidence and promotes lifelong friendships and memorable experiences, while giving children the feeling of being independent and in a barrier-free environment.

In turn, Jiffy Lube customers who choose to donate receive a Muscle Up! savings book, containing more than $100 in savings from Jiffy Lube and other partners.

“Just recently, the first drug for the treatment of one of the most common forms of muscular dystrophy was approved by the FDA and it’s a moment that would not have been possible without the generosity of loyal Jiffy Lube franchisees, service center employees and customers,” Derks said.

“We’re grateful to our franchisees, their employees and loyal customers who continue to show their passion for MDA to help bring strength, independence and life to the courageous families fighting these diseases,” added Denny Reiner, Jiffy Lube International’s director of marketing.

Jiffy Lube pioneered the fast oil change industry in 1979. Today, Jiffy Lube International owns more than 2,000 franchised service centers in North America.
