The International Association of Firefighters (IFFA) has a long-standing relationship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and has been raising funds for the non-profit organization for more than 60 years.
Across the U.S., firefighters hold Fill the Boot events in support of diseases like muscular dystrophy, ALS, and SMA and also attend MDA summer camps. In 2015, the Fill the Boot campaign raised more than $25 million dollars and approximately 100,000 firefighters took part in the events where they ask local people to fill their firefighter boots with money.
To date, the IFFA has raised more than $585 for MDA, which goes into researching muscle wasting diseases and helping the patients and families of people who suffer from them.
