Alorica to Support Muscular Dystrophy Association
Alorica, an Irvine, California-based, company, recently announced it will join forces with non-profit health organization Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to help fundraise for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and the MDA. As such, Alorica will be present at the association’s annual lock-up charity event, called MDA Lock-Up, which is taking place on Oct. 15.
Alorica is a worldwide leading provider of customer management outsourcing solutions, while the Muscular Dystrophy Association is the leading U.S. organization fighting the disease. At the MDA Lock-Up, the two institutions will work together for the same purpose. The event is taking place at the Syracuse District and employees from Alorica’s Endicott, N.Y. site have set the goal of raising $3,000 to increase awareness and support MDA’s research efforts to find a treatment for neuromuscular diseases.
DMD members are expected at the MDA Lock-Up and two Alorica employees will act as ‘jailbirds’ until their fundraising goal of $3,000 is met. Every year, the event raises about $60,000, with the money being used to fight muscular diseases. Muscular dystrophy is a degenerative disease that affects the muscles and nerves responsible for movement and sensation control in the body. The burden of the disease, for which there is currently no cure, affects millions of Americans.
In addition to attending the event, anyone can help by making an online donation here. The participation of Alorica in the MDA Lock-Up is related to the company’s commitment to help boost the economic and business community in Endicott, as well as support local charities. The company also recently announced it will hire employees to help create long-term career opportunities in the location. “We see Endicott as a unique place for families and business to thrive,” stated Dawn Proctor, the director of Operations at Alorica. “By expanding employment opportunities in the region, we can provide our Fortune 500 utility customers with best-in-class services and be a part of local residents’ career aspirations.”
MDA Lock-Up is only one of the events organized by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which is focused on finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. The association has also recently participated in the World Duchenne Awareness Day, rallying along with the Duchenne muscular dystrophy community. The organization is simultaneously awaiting FDA approval for two drugs agents to treat the symptoms and genetic defects that lead to DMD, and is going to award 36 new research and development funds totaling $10 million and aiming to treat a broad spectrum of neuromuscular diseases.
