shutterstock_180233393The Muscular Dystrophy Association recently announced the start of the 13th annual “Appetite for a Cure” campaign to raise critically-needed funds and mobilize awareness to help the MDA improve the lives of both children and adults who live with muscular dystrophy.

From February 2 through March 22, more than 130 Sailormen/Popeye’s restaurants will participate in the campaign in South Florida and across the Southeast. Sailormen Inc. is a franchisee of Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen restaurants, and patrons will be invited to purchase $1 coupon cards worth $30 that can be used for discounts and free purchases during future visits.

Tina Dietrich, the MDA’s Executive Director, said in a press release: “The ‘Appetite for a Cure’ campaign with Sailormen/Popeyes has been successful for more than a decade due to the generosity of its dedicated employees and loyal patrons, who are committed to raising vital funds that will make a real difference in the lives of people fighting muscle disease across the Southeast. It is their unyielding support that makes it possible for us to invest in lifesaving MDA research and support programs for the families we serve.”

Last year, thanks to the “Appetite for a Cure” campaign plus the 10th annual Sailormen Inc. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic, the fundraisers brought in $703,034 to fund the MDA’s research and healthcare programs, and to support the MDA summer camp.

Bob Berg, Sailormen’s CEO, noted: “By simply adding a $1 ‘Appetite for a Cure’ coupon card to your Sailormen/Popeyes order this winter, you support MDA families affected by muscle disease who depend on these funds to help find research breakthroughs. Sailormen is proud to be part of the progress that will bring us closer to a world free of the harmful effects of muscle disease, and we hope to make 2015 the most successful year yet.”

The fundraising coupons give great discounts to customers, and at the same time help the MDA support MD research in order to find new cures and treatments for patients with muscular dystrophy.

Finally, the MDA summer camp is made possible thanks to funding campaigns such as these, and can provide an incredible week for children with MD.
