My Asthma Flare Inspired Me to Buy a Vogmask

For most of my life, I’ve suffered from viral-induced asthma. While coughing and wheezing are often a constant with standard asthma, viral-induced asthma is triggered by infections such as the common cold or the flu.

My first asthma memory was during my first-grade year. I missed a month of school because of a severe bout of asthma along with a sinus infection, pneumonia, and pertussis (also known as whooping cough). You can blame me for the spread of whooping cough in California that year. I was patient zero, despite having been vaccinated. 

The last couple of years my asthma has been well-contained, thanks to a good pediatric pulmonologist and being homeschooled. But this summer, I had a horrible asthma flare.

Beginning with a minor cold I caught in July, my asthma worsened after a trip to my county’s annual fair. I hadn’t considered wearing a mask to protect me from the barbecue smoke and allergens from the farm animals. But this incident inspired me to finally purchase a Vogmask.
