Jiffy Lube, MDA Launch 6th Annual MUSCLE UP! Campaign
by |
Jiffy Lube and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) are teaming up again this summer for the 6th annual MUSCLE UP! campaign.
Each August for the past five years, Jiffy Lube has campaigned in support of MDA-funded muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular disease research and programs to help people of all ages who are battling muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. MDA says that in its first five years, MUSCLE UP! has raised more than $5 million in support of MDA research and patient services.
Customers at participating Jiffy Lube Service Centers who make a MUSCLE UP! donation of $3 or more in support of MDA and its Summer Camp program, from Aug. 1-31, will receive a MUSCLE UP! savings book containing more than $100 in savings from Jiffy Lube.
For the past five years the MUSCLE UP! program has helped send thousands of children with muscular dystrophy and related diseases to MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.
“Jiffy Lube is proud to support MDA through the MUSCLE UP! campaign,” Denny Reiner, the company’s International Director of Marketing said on the MUSCLE UP! website. “With the help of our customers, franchisees and employees across the country we are committed to helping kids and adults with muscular dystrophy and their families live longer and grow stronger and truly make a difference in the lives of so many in our communities.”
“Jiffy Lube and our franchisees are passionate about giving back to the community in which we live and work and we are proud of our relationship with MDA,” Reiner said in a MDA press release.”Participating in an MDA summer camp or spending time with families affected by neuromuscular disease is truly an impactful experience. We are glad to be a part of giving families a break while their child enjoys a week at Summer Camp.”
MDA says its nearly 75 week-long summer camps annually provide some 3,800 kids with muscular dystrophy and related muscle-debilitating diseases “the best week of the year.” The children participate in adaptive sports activities like horseback riding, swimming and fishing, arts and crafts, camp dances, and more, developing lifelong friendships, and building self-confidence and increased self-esteem in an environment without barriers.
Attending a MDA Summer Camp enables campers to develop independence by spending a week away from home with someone other than their parents providing personal care, and the opportunity to be in an environment where physical disabilities are the norm rather than the exception.
MDA camp also provides a brief break for parents and guardians from their role as caregivers for a child with neuromuscular disease, allowing much-needed time to attend to their own needs and/or spend some special time with the camper’s siblings, confident that their child’s medical and physical needs will be addressed by a team of dedicated health professionals and camp volunteers.
MDA invites persons 16 years or older to apply and join the MDA team as volunteer camp counselors, typically to work one-on-one with campers, providing around-the-clock care, close supervision, and attention required by children with MD and related muscle-debilitating diseases. MDA says male camp volunteers are especially needed. Find more information about becoming a MDA Summer Camp volunteer here and here.
