The Fundamentals of Caring is an excellent Netflix film that focuses on what it’s like to have muscular dystrophy as a teenager and what it’s like to be a carer. **Warning: the film contains explicit language**

Find out what it’s like to live with a muscle degenerative disease such as muscular dystrophy.

The film stars Paul Rudd as a retired writer who, following a personal tragedy, decides he needs a change of direction in life so he becomes a carer for Trevor (Craig Roberts), an 18-year-old who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The two decide to go on a road trip to see some of America’s “lamest roadside attractions,” picking up a couple of hitchhikers along the way (Selena Gomez and Megan Ferguson). It is both funny and touching in equal measures and highlights how important it is for people to see those with disabilities as equals and understand they have goals and ambitions in life.
