Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy Hosting Annual DMD Conference in Arizona

The Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) is holding its 24th annual conference this year from June 27 to July 1 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Patients, families, physicians, industry partners, and other members of the community will gather at the event to discuss current issues related to Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy (DMD).
Topics this year include managing care at different stages of DMD, understanding disease mutations, ongoing and upcoming clinical trials, accessing therapies, and recent research advances and advocacy achievements, as well as other family and social matters and everyday life topics.
PPMD will offer a support program for newly diagnosed Duchenne families, which will waive registration fees for families who have a child who was diagnosed with DMD after January 2016, have never attended the PPMD conference, and are registered in the DuchenneConnect Registry.
About 30 scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program doesn’t cover costs of travel, accommodation, or additional activities.
Kids Track, an interactive program for children, will also be available at the conference. The sessions include entertainment, special group games, crafts, and activities for three age groups starting at 5 years old. Program fees are $55 for all age groups.
The Race to End Duchenne. 1K invites parents, families, children, researchers, and anyone interested to run 0.1 kilometers, about the length of football field, in support of DMD. The registration fee — $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 15 — includes a race shirt, bib, swag bag, and other souvenirs. Children under 5 race for free.
Fees for the conference are $150 per person for family members and patients at the early registration rates until April 22. Rates will rise to $250 after May 24. Registration includes access to sessions and conference materials, as well as a welcome reception and some meals.
The conference will take place at The Phoenician hotel. Hotel rooms at the $180 group rate are first come, first served. Reservations must be made by June 5. Each additional guest above double occupancy is subject to a $50-per-day charge. There is no charge for children under 17 accompanied by an adult.
