I have recently had more problems with my arms falling asleep. Due to an operation, I’ve had to sleep on my back all night. I use small firms pillows under each arm, with my hands lower on my belly than my upper arms. It should be comfortable, so move arms around to find your best fit. It doesn’t help all the time. I tend to have my arms fall asleep more if I carry or lift too heavy of items ( under 5 pounds and close to body is my limit), or doing repetitive hand movements such as playing an online game on my phone for over 20 minutes.

I’m keeping vigilant following the precautions for those who don’t want to get Covid. Got my shots, signing up for my second booster, socially distancing when I have to go out but staying in most of the time. No in person gatherings. I’m on zoom for my book club, Bible study classes, Church, and social groups! I wear an N95 mask if I go out to doctors or a store for pick-up. We socially isolated when our Daughter-in-law was exposed at work to someone with Covid. We stayed in separate parts of the house for 7 days. She never showed symptoms and tested negative. We wore masks in the hallways. She always comes home, showers and changes her clothes before interacting. We are staying vigilant. The country seems to have thrown caution to the wind. Not us!

Leah, I’m so happy for you that your Labwork came back so good! Any advice for someone with fatty liver who is still working on losing more weight to bring my numbers down? What was your “go to” foods?

  • Danielle, I was at a museum in a wheelchair. A five year old girl started talking with me since we were at the same level. Her Mother looked to find out who her daughter was talking to, saw me and the Mother quickly took her away. I’m sure the girl got the message that there is something bad about talking to someone in a wheelchair. It’s sad.

  • I have a disability and am elderly. It seems to be that we have trained people not to stare at people with disabilities so well, that when I’m in a wheelchair, I’m invisible to the average person! They walk into me, make no eye contact, say nothing to me, don’t smile or say hello…things done on days I’m able to stand and walk! I feel like I have a Harry Potter invisibility cloak on when seated in a wheelchair!

I wanted a dog again. Our new puppy hated going outside and I would sit outside with her for hours and she would only relieve herself when we would go inside and she had her training pad to go potty on! She was highly resistant to changing this routine, so she is still, 3 years later, a pad trained dog. This is much easier for me. I can use a long handled pincher to fold and lift the dirty pads and unfold and lay down a fresh training pad. We also have gated our new dog to the great room. That way I only have to worry about tripping on a dashing dog when fully awake and in the living area, not in my bedroom or in the hallway or bathroom! I have fallen and broke some toes due to the puppy. She went behind a large plant and hid for an hour when I fell and couldn’t get up when she was little. She quickly learned “no jump” and stays down around me. She had pounced on the back of my knees, causing my knees to buckle under me and I was soon lying on my back on the floor hitting my head, and my full weight on my feet wedged beneath me.  I knew it would be a danger to have a dog, but she is easy to care for now, and a big comfort when I am home alone. Her favorite spot is to lay on my legs on the recliner. I love her hot fur on my always cold legs!

November 19, 2021 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Covid Moderna Booster (Continued)

I lost an older Brother to Covid19 last January. He wasn’t tested for DM2 which my Mother, another Brother, a sister, and myself have. He was 71. His lungs and heart couldn’t recover after Covid19.

I take my yearly flu and Pneumonia and just had the Moderna booster. I’ve had some aches and pains since the booster but not as bad as the 2 Moderna vaccines before it. I had to visit my Brother in hospice care at his home via Zoom for his last month of life. Any aches and pains for a few days is better than what he went through, and losing him.

I still shower myself but last week was like Christmas early. I had a ramp installed from the house to our attached garage and hand rails in the shower. I feel like I don’t have a disability again. I will eventually need more help but get what you need right away when you need it and it keeps you from feeling as helpless. Next I’ll add a seat in the shower and eventually I’ll need someone to help me get in but a shower head with a longer than normal hose will keep me showering myself longer! I can only use the expense as a tax deduction along with other medical expenses. I earned too much for low income assistance and insurance didn’t cover it.

My puppy trained us better! She hated going outside and would only eat and swallow everything outside which wasn’t healthy. So we trained her to use puppy pads and that is her preferred thing inside the house. She has been using “pee-pee” pads for two years. This works great for me with DM2. I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to take her outside when home alone with her, problem solved! It is around 60 dollars a month to keep the puppy pads in the house and I can clean them up using my pincher tool so I don’t have to bend over if I’m having a bad day!!

My second booster was a Moderna, which is what I’ve gotten for all 4 of my Covid vaccines. I had more side effects than I had with my first booster. I ran a temperature of 99.9, lost my appetite, and felt achey 24 hours after getting the booster. I had a good nights sleep and my temperature is down and I’m feeling great today! So I had maybe 6 hours of not feeling well but rest made it all better!
